The Institute of International Relations AFiB Vistula invites to a scientific seminar on “THE EUROPEAN UNION IN 2018-2019: WHAT EVOLUTION SHOULD WE EXPECT?”

The lecture will be given and the discussion will be led by Jan Truszczyński – former ambassador and deputy minister of foreign affairs, adviser to President Aleksander Kwaśniewski. He is the Europe expert with excellent connections He knows absolutely everything about the European Union. He was the main negotiator of Poland’s membership in the EU. He also cooperated with the Support Group of Ukraine.

The lecture of Jan Truszczyński will be an attempt to forecast the development of the situation in the Community. In his opinion, 2017 was generally favorable for the European Union. The wave of populism was stopped. It also weakened the migration pressure. There is stabilization of the eurozone, further decline in the unemployment rate and higher dynamics of economic growth. After the elections in France and Germany, the situation is clear. All these factors create  better conditions for the reforms necessary in the Union.

There are many challenges ahead of the Community in key areas such as the development of Economic and Monetary Union instruments, the single market, communitarisation of Asylum and Migration policy, strengthening of EU cooperation in external security and defense, agreeing the long-term budget for the 2021-2027 period and concluding Brexit negotiations with United Kingdom.

How the work will be conducted and what will be the result? We will try to answer these questions.

We invite you on June 12, at 10:00 am, room 21
